QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop on Thursday said it had completed the installation of solar panels on eight of its stores.
The solar panels will reduce the amount of energy consumed by these stores by more than 7%, and are among a series of green solutions designed to reduce the company’s carbon footprint by 20% by 2015, using 2008 as a baseline.
The photovoltaic solar power generating systems were developed by Alteris Renewables. The locations of the eight stores that are powered with solar energy are Somerville, Dedham and Dorchester, Mass.; Fairfield, Conn.; and Franklin Park, Aberdeen, Somerset and Whiting, N.J.
