SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets here said Wednesday it has named Patti Olenick, a former long-time state environmental official, as the company’s first-ever sustainability specialist.
Plans call for her to help the company develop its sustainability and environmental responsibility programs.

Olenick joins the company from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. During her 20-year government career, she helped develop such programs as The Great American Cleanup of Pennsylvania, the Community Illegal Dump Cleanup Grant Program and a statewide backyard composting program.
“We take our environmental responsibilities seriously,” said David J. Hepfinger, president and chief executive officer at Weis Markets, noting that Olenick will help the company "develop a more systematic approach" to its sustainability programs and "bring greater cohesion" to its efforts, which include recycling and waste- and energy-reduction.
In addition, Weis said it has named Regina Tator and Greg Oldright directors of Center Store sales and Bruno Garisto director of private brands. Tator most recently was director of corporate brands at Price Chopper. Oldright was the company’s sales manager, and he previously was category manager for specialty and ethnic foods. Garisto joined Weis Markets five years ago and previously was director of Center Store sales and merchandising.
