Bi-Lo Holdings said that six Reid’s grocery stores in South Carolina would close later this week and would reopen June 6 under the Bi-Lo banner.

Bi-Lo Holdings, Jacksonville, Fla., acquired the Reid’s stores from Delhaize America last year. It said it was working with their founder, Reid Boyleston, to preserve certain features of Reid’s stores and expand them to eight existing Bi-Lo stores in the area.

Boyleston has been appointed director of marketing for Bi-Lo. He said popular Reid’s features including its 10-pound riblets box and 20-pound chicken legs packages would be available at Bi-Lo, while Bi-Lo features including its BOGO and fuelperks offerings, would come to the converted Reid’s stores.

“These new stores are not the Bi-Los customers think they know,” Allen Reavis, Bi-Lo regional VP, said in a statement. “Customers love Reid’s and we do, too, which is why we are partnering with Reid Boylston to marry the best of the Reid’s with the best of Bi-Lo at these six stores and at eight neighboring Bi-Lo stores.”

Reid’s shoppers last week posted a video tribute to their favorite store:

Bi-Lo announced the acquisition of the Reid’s stores a year ago as part of a $265 million deal completed earlier this year. In connection with regulatory approval, one Reid’s store was retained by Delhaize to be converted to a Food Lion, one was sold to a local IGA operator, and three Reid’s stores closed.
