A spokesman for Associated Wholesalers Inc. had no comment Monday on published reports suggesting the company has considered selling itself in addition to its previously announced intention of selling its White Rose subsidiary.

Citing anonymous industry sources, Food Trade News said company officials discussed the possibility with AWI’s board of directors earlier this month. In June, Robesonia, Pa.-based AWI said it would seek to sell White Rose so as to concentrate on its legacy business as a cooperative wholesaler.

White Rose, based in Carteret, N.J., is the supplier to metro New York supermarkets including Met Food, Associated Supermarkets and Fairway.
