Gallery: Gelson’s opens first store under new ownership

Gelson’s Markets opened its 18th store on March 27 — a 25,000-square-foot unit in the affluent community of La Cañada Flintridge, northeast of downtown Los Angeles. A plaque on the store says the chain is committed “to show our love of food, family and friends with a passion for perfection” and dedicates the store “in the spirit of celebration for all the moments of your life.” The store is the second new Gelson’s to open since November; that store, in Long Beach, was the chain’s first new unit in 12 years. With its acquisition in February by TPG, a Fort Worth-based private investment firm, Gelson’s executives said they anticipate one to two openings a year for the next few years.
